Weather in Mauritius

Holidays in the tropics – for sure you would like to know what to expect. Fantastic hotels with excellent service, extremely nice local people – this all we know. But what about the weather? Raincoat or sun cream? T-shirt or pullover? Ok, we know that Mauritius is a tropical country. But what does this mean to us? Wikipedia says about the climate in Mauritius: "The local climate is tropical, modified by southeast trade winds; there is a warm, dry winter from May to November and a hot, wet, and humid summer from November to May. Anti-cyclones affect the country during May to September." Great general information, but what is the weather right now? To answer this question for several years now we are collecting the local weather data and publish it here on this site. At the end of 2010 we have taken a huge step forward: we invested in new hardware and software and put a professional weather station online. Here some interesting details about the Mauritius weather station:

The station: Weather Station Davis Vantage Pro All weather data is collected by Davis Instruments Wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus Weather Station with Standard Radiation Shield The features: - Barometric pressure - Forecast - Inside & outside temperature - Inside & outside humidity - Heat index - Dew point - Moon phase - Rainfall for minutes, hours, days, month, year and storm - Rainfall totals for last 24 storms - Rain rate for minutes, hours, days and months - Wind direction & speed - Wind chill - Time & date - Time of sunrise & sunset - Rain bucket is self-emptying for exceptionally accurate readings - Wireless integrated sensor suite runs on solar power. Lithium battery provides backup at night and day - Temperature and humidity sensors are located inside the radiation protective shield This station is the only one of its kind using "frequency hopping spread spectrum radio technology" which enables to transmit data over a distance of 300m to the receiver unit. Useless to say that all materials are made from weather proofed material. Update / presentation: All data is updated every 6 seconds and connected via a logger to our PC, running a professional software with "live feed" in order to prepare all data graphically.
