Divali

Divali is the most jovial of all Hindu festivals. This public holiday is celebrated on 25th October this year. It marks the victory of Rame over Ravana and also commemorates Krishna´s destruction of the demon Narakasuran. Clay oil lamps are placed in front of every home turning the island into a fairyland of flickering lights.

There are spectacular views of the island: looking west the first majestic ...

Agricultural and Sugar

The agricultural sector in Mauritius is very much dominated by sugar. The cultivation of sugar was introduced by the Dutch in the 17th century. Ever since, sugar and agriculture have been the backbone of the economy. Even today, in spite of tremendous efforts in industrialising the country, sugar remains an essential component of the economy.
