Dear all, I am planning to spend a month in Mauritius along wih my family. But, I am very impressed about dire situation of water there. Is there any improvement in water situation nowadays?
Where can I get certain information about water conditions? Is there any water authority, web site?

Best regards

Hi Savvy,
As already mentioned in this thread, that's the homepage of the water authority:
http://www.gov.mu/portal/site/cwa

Thanks a lot.

Hi Savvy,
As you can see here
http://metservice.intnet.mu/?page_id=756
they had not that much rain in April as usually. In March it was ok, but as the months before were already quite dry and now the "dry season" starts, they are afraid to run out of water.
Do you intend to go to a Hotel? There you shoud have water normaly.
I came back 10 days ago. I stayed in a appartement complex. Twice a day I had for 2-3h no water, but I don't know if that there always like this, or if it's to save water.
I think it's important, that a tourist is aware of the situation and helps to save water - with not staying under the shower half an hour etc.

Hi,

I really hope that we do not run in water problems in the next months. Construction here in MRU is running at full throttle and they are using lots of water. This combined with the heavy leaks in the distribution system and the fact that we have got less rain may indeed cause us soon trouble here. Guys, please press all your thumbs that this does not happen and we get a bit more rain water.
Gruss, Joe

Wishful thinking, I plant a feather and wish a chicken will grow...Better to be pro-active and implement strict water restrictions, e.g. immediately prohibit the;
Watering of gardens
Topping up of pools
Washing of cars

What are they waiting for.........

it would be easy to enforce the above restrictions, anyone with a green garden or a pool always full is cheating,

LeftRight,

it would be much more efficient, before we run into further water trouble, if they would limit the construction works as a preventive measure. But this will not happen. The poor couple that was washing cars at the gasoline station in Fef ... they had to stop. But the construction companies are mighty enough, nobody will stop them. So everybody here will pay the price, if it doesn't rain soon.
