Shore Fishing?

Shore Fishing?

Beitragvon Simon » Fr Okt 27, 2006 22:58

Hello everyone. I will be in Mauritius from 5th November for 2 weeks in the Bel Ombre resort in the South West of the island.

I'm interested in doing some fishing whilst over there, possibly a boat trip but more likely from the shore.

I'd appreciate in particular some advice on:
1. Is fishing with rod and line allowed from the shore?
2. Is any licence for this required?
3. If so how much and where do I get one from?
4. What methods will work? I suspect lure fishing or bait fishing or both?
5. What species can I expect to catch?
6. Is there anything I should be aware of? i.e poisonous fish, etc

So, if anyone out there can assist please leave a post with your info/tips/advice on fishing from the shore/beach/rocks.

Thanks in advance, I'm sure someone out there can help!

Simon

Simon,

If you want to do a bit of deep-sea fishing check out this website http://www.sportfisher.com/. It's not the only charter on the island but a start.

You can expect to catch various species, black and blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo and bonito. Also blue, hammerhead, mako, tiger, black and white reef sharks.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone actually know if a fishing licence is required for fishing from the shore?

This stupid regulation does not apply in Mauritius....they were planning to

apply it a few yrs back but people like me responded and so NO it does

not apply to LEISURE fishing.

A permit for hunting is required for leisure hunting though

Let me look into this and I will pm u if I get any more info

If I were you, I'd stick to the tried and true lures. Plastics worms, jigs, Rattle Traps, spinnerbaits, etc. Consider getting different colors and sizes in all of those, then you will have a lot of situations covered.
