Times are changing - just have a look at this:
Shopping experience for the rural customer :
The opening of the country’s largest hypermarket in the northern part of the country evidences a major change that affects consumer behaviour in Mauritius. It looks like the days of the traditional “boutique chinoise”, a so-called folkloric term, are counted. In the rural areas of the country, privately-owned supermarkets offering a self-service facility appear to be the new customary behaviour of villagers. Caddies, plastic bags bearing the brand name of the supermarket and even occasional gifts and promotions are clearly spelled in the customer’s buying habit.
