Mobile Phones in Mauritius

Postby babamc » Sun Mar 09, 2008 21:58

Hi All,

I just found this forum and it is great for answering all my little questions. We are going to Mauritius in October for two weeks and we are very excited we are staying Legends Hotel and getting married there as well. I have one question that I could not see the answer in the forum we would like to get a sim card to use while we are there as our service does not roam in Maurtitius, can anyone recommend a company and is it possible to just buy a sim?

Thanks a lot

Yes, you can buy just a SIM card.

Check out the sites of the two followings Mauritian companies (Emtel and Cellplus):

http://www.emtel-ltd.com/

http://www.cellplus.mu (only in French though).

Bring your passport, when buying the card at an outlet.

PS: Here's the English site of Cellplus:

Hello babamc,

There are 2 mobile network companies in Mauritius:

Emtel and Cellplus

Sim cards from any of those 2 are readily available in most large supermarkets et.c.

While Cellplus is known to have better coverage, some people argue that Emtel's service is better....

This has been discussed before - please follow this link:

Hope this helps

Hello again,

Well Grand Baie is the "tourist capital" of Mauritius and it has shops opened even till Sunday afternoons. It also has clubs/pubs/most facilities that makes it live up to this title. You don't need to worry about such trivial matters trust me!
