Mauritian Passports

I've heard that all Mauritian citizens, by birth or descent are entitled to a Mauritian Passport.

Is this true and does the passport grant residency?

Well my parents are born in Mauritius, so I just want to know if I can live there too?

the constitution stipulates that :
PERSONS QUALIFIED AS MAURITIAN CITIZENS

A person becomes a citizen of Mauritius either by birth or by descent

BY BIRTH:

(i) A person is a citizen of Mauritius, if he is born in Mauritius before 1st September 1995, of either Mauritian or foreign parents

(ii) A person is a citizen of Mauritius if he is born in Mauritius after September 1995 and if either of his parents is a citizen of Mauritius.

BY DESCENT

A person born outside Mauritius is a citizen of Mauritius if either of his parents is a citizen of Mauritius by birth (Sections 20(3) and 23 of the Constitution)


So since ure parents are from Mauritius it should not be a prob

So if I get a Mauritian passport, do I have to give up my UK passport?

Will I be allowed to work in Mauritius or do I need a resident or work permit?

Hey calm down Jeez,

One thing at a time though i understand ure situation!

There's something called dual citizenship and if u apply for it there won't

be any restrictions.

My advice: Don't come back from UK to work in Mauritius if you've

already chosen your career path here in da UK

Thanks for the info ud, those documents are a load of jargon to me!

I was actually thinking of retiring in the near future, but I'm not allowed to buy property a remember reading.

But can I inherit a property from my parents?

I dunno anything to be honest about wills. I just search on the internet for

some info that u people might have missed somewhere and just paste it

here. Why don't u liase directly with the home office or the Mauritian

embassy in da UK?

I'm sure they've got some info about this.
