Local bus?

for our english speaking user.

Local bus?

Beitragvon Deia » Mi Mär 28, 2007 18:52

Hi again!
More questions from a firstTimer.

Is it possible to go by bus from the northwest cost to the eastern cost, from Mont Choisy to Bella Mare for example?
If so, how frequent are buses between those places?

Kind regards
Deia

It must be possible. Bus service is pretty wel organized in Mauritius. But I would recommend a taxi, from the north-west to the east would be like maybe an +hour drive with a taxi and shouldn't cost you much more then +-800MUR. You'll be faster and cooler (airco) that way ;)

Belle Mare is nice area, nice beaches and close to Centre de Flacq, so great to combine!

Hi Deia,
its no problem to go from the north west by bus to the east. It takes some time (you shouldn't be in a hurry :wink) ) but its nice also and a different way to explore mauritius. but you cant go by bus directly to belle mare- there's no bus. You will have to take a bus to Flacq and from there you can take a cheap taxi to belle mare.

Greetings

Well if I recall properly, those bus routes are run by private bus owners and they tend to slack off on Bus Stops waiting for people and drive really slowly as well.

If you're visiting Mauritius, it shouldn't be a problem because this gives you the opportunity to further appreciate the landscape although I am sure most of it will be Sugarcane fields :p.

Make sure you visit the Pamplemousses garden though.

Taking a taxi would not be a bad idea when you come to think about it.

Thank you all.
We’ll probably try going by bus as well as taxi.
Bus is quite fun I think. But no AC? :-? , good to know.

No AC!

Only the Bus companies like the TBS, NTC, UBS and RHT have a couple of AC buses.

NTC = National Transport Corporation
UBS = United Bus Service
RHT = Rose Hill Transport
TBS = Triolet Bus Service

You should be familiar with the Triolet Bus Service one because they provide the Mont Choisy service together with NTC if you want to go to Blue Bay.

Hi!
No there's no AC but sometimes nice decoration in India-style combined with the Music from India :-'' its worth to do a bus trip at least once. :ploppop
Well I made the experience with the buses that always when you wanna go somewhere very quick they drive as ud mentioned veeeeerrrrry slow- but sometimes they are really !!!! fast! especially if there's two buses behind each other :-) they always try to overtake the one on front to get the passengers.
I liked going by bus as its really verrrrrrryyyy cheap but you definetly will need time cause the buses stop nearly everywhere.
Only on some main connections there are Express-Buses, they dont stop that often on the way.
Greetings
