Has anyone stayed at the Ambre Hotel on the east coast? Any information would be appreciated.

Are there any shops around the hotels in this area to buy soft drinks, water etc?

Where would you change money, other than at the hotels?

Anyone any info on deep sea fishing around this area? Understand La Morne is perhaps best for deep sea fishing but will be visiting Mauritius in March and apparently the east coast is the pleasantest at this time of year.

I´ve been there in march, very nice hotel, big but ev´rything good, service, food, sports, beach, rooms...

Bad for deep sea fishing, shops in Belle Mare, 2 km, you can rent a bike in the hotel and go there by bike or walk, no problem.
I would change money at Shibani Money Changer or a bank.
You can do this also in Belle Mare.
We have also been at the north-west-coast in march and we found it better for us(from middle-europe) at the east-coast, because there has been wind the whole day, thank god

Thanks so much for your reply Susanne. The hotel choice seems ok but what a shame about the fishing - a big "must do" for my husband. I wonder if hotels in the north east still get some of the sea breeze? Were perhaps thinking of Legends as an alternative.
