Honeymoon early July with a one year old baby

Beitragvon Frank2010 » Sa Feb 15, 2014 13:45

Hi.

My soon to be wife and I are going to Mauritius for 14 days-ish and really need some advice.

We are looking at forums all over the internet and still can not decide, east or west? We have been travelling quite a lot before just the two of us, but this time we are three so we have to get the spot right the first time.

I looked at a weather diagram and it showed a significant difference in rainy days from east to west? Is this true?

We are also thinking half pension hotel, so we won't have to cook ourselves.

We want to spend as much time as we can as a family just enjoying the not too warm climate and having sand between our feet.

What we are looking for, and need advice on:
- east or west?
- a nice, clean and decent hotel that offers half pension. Doesn't have to Hilton if you get my drift... Budget for 14 days: $2300
- a nice beach that is swimmable without putting on vibram shoes - not too many waves so we can enjoy the water with our baby
- possibility to try different restaurants nearby the hotel
- shopping nearby the hotel if we feel like doing something else than tanning is a bonus...

Frank

hi frank,
we need to know from where you intend to travel to mauritius.
$ is for me us dollars and from the us you will never find something for 2300 for two adults and a baby.
early july is winter in mauritius and usually it's not raining much. i would not choose the east as it's much more windy there. i would search for a nice place in the north or west.
i would never go into the sea without shoes in mauritius. i'm a snorkler and i know on what you can walk even very close to the beach. and there are many pieces of broken corals - it can hurt much without shoes.
best,
mylene

I forgot the obvious.

We are travelling from Norway or Sweden and 2300 USD is for accomodation only...

Hi

at the east coast the hotels have some nice beaches without stones, shells or corals, just seen it in Palmar this weekend, but it might be a bit fresher there in our "winter". But I guess you are used to other winters. [biggrin]
I remember that Le Morne in the west had some nice beaches where I haven't had so much issue with above in the sand or water, and the water there is already quite deep close to the beach. But this is only some experience from about two years back. Haven't been there in a while now ...shame on me.
I am not so sure about restaurants on the east coast around the hotels, maybe in Flacq you have a greater choice or just ask at the other hotels if you can also eat there.
But normally as you wrote half board you can have enough during the day with a decent breakfast from the buffet and same at night with dinner. So maybe some fruit during the day might be sufficient.
