Flying to Mauritius - which airline?

Postby kaitho » Wed May 11, 2005 18:28

Hi,

First time in Mauritius in September. Honeymoon!

Anyway, I have a question about airlines. Flying from London, I seem to have a choice from three - Air Mauritius, Air France and British Airways. Do any of these compare favourably? I despise flying, it'll be my first long haul trip, and I don't want it to be a nightmare...

Thanks
Kai

Flights to Mauritius

Postby MmeTortue » Fri May 13, 2005 11:36

Hello Kaitho,

I strongly recommend either Air Mauritius or British Airways.

Another option would be Emirates, however this includes a stopover in Dubai (a shopping center with it's very own airport attached...).

My experiences with Air France were not exactly amusing... and I will certainly avoid putting a foot in one of their planes. (There are some more people here in this web-community who share my opinion...).

This Thursday I just returned to Mauritius on a flight with BA from London Heathrow. The flight had been delayed due to a temporary closure of one runway in London, however it's been again a comfortable and enjoyable trip on BA.

Best wishes and have a wonderful Holiday!

Hello!

I can second what Mme Tortue said. I did just come back from Mauritius and went with Air Mauritius, and it was quite good. What I did like best is the inflight-entertainment, as they have a small videoscreen in the back of each seat, and you can choose between different movie-channels (even in economy-class!).

I also liked the food on Air Mauritius (spicy, creole food).

British Airways isn't bad as well, though you probably pay a little more.

Avoid Air France, when I was in Mauritius I talked to a girl who did go with Air France, because she got her tickets there cheap (her mother worked for AF), and even she said she wouldn't choose it, if it wasn't for the cheap ticket. She also mentioned that if the AF-flight has stopover in Paris, you run the risk of being stranded at the airport, if the airport-staff decides to go on strike, which is quite common in France.

So, I'd take Air Mauritius or British Airways.

Regards,

Welcome Kaitho,

forget Air France !!! :beer) :pp) :Q

They will kill all your happiness in looking forward to a nice honeymoon ...
Believe me. Cheap tickets, but forget this Airline....

I can agree to 100 percent with the others, take Air Mauritius... Quite good ! Or Emirates to share with a shorttrip to Dubai between....

Regards,
Christian

I would also say avoid Air France like the plague. The attitude of the staff leaves a lot to be desired. I would recommend Air Mauritius or British Airways.

Air Mauritius

Postby vineweevil1 » Tue May 24, 2005 16:40

We have just returned on BA flights and were all fine and on time.

My dad went with Air Mauritius and on the way out had a 3 hr delay and on the way back took off and had to return 2 hrs into the flight to mauritus. He then had a 10 hour delay while they waited for another plane - maybe he was unlucky???

Not trying to scare you if you don't like flying, just 5 of us on 5 different flights from BA all were OK and two air mauritius flights were not

Hi.

I think that was simply bad luck. We never had to experience any unpleasant irregularities when flying Air Mauritius (except the narrow seating).

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I was thinking about Air France but I think I'll avoid them now! Also am concerned about the narrow seating on Air Mauritius - I'm a little wider than I used to be. BA it is for me then!
