Entering Mauritius

Beitragvon vilma » Mo Apr 13, 2009 12:22

Hello everybody. We are from Lithuania, and we are comming to Mauritius in 7th of May for 3 months. Can you tell us more about entering the country? Do we have to show our evidence of sufficient funds for 3 month stay? If yes, so how to do that? We can get an invitation letter from our mauritian friend, but can you tell us what it should be like? Is there any official form for such letters? What information should be in that letter? Shoul we send that letter to the goverment before we come to Mauritius?
Thank you for your replays :) Dovile and Vilma

I have enterered Mauritius some 10-15 times (with EU passport) and never had to prove any funds, but I never stayed more than 10 days.

You will have to fill out an entry form, that also request your address in Mauritius.
I have never been asked a proof (I gave mostly a hotel name).
I'm not sure about this point but I don't remember from the last entries that there is still a field for "funds" in the entry form (formerly there had been but I also don't remember having ever been asked to show/proof same)

But one thing that makes me think: they never gave me a single day more than my scheduled stay.
(in opposit to other countries, who mostly give you straight away 3 months)

I believe that they might have a closer look at you, when you intend to stay for 3 months. Maybe it's an good idea to ask your friends to send you a simple invitations in which they confirm that you will be housed by them during your stay.

3-month stay with friends

Beitragvon MmeTortue » Mo Apr 13, 2009 14:56

Hello Vilma,

It might be a good idea if your friend gets some information in advance from the Immigration office in Port Louis. He might not like the idea in particular (a horrible place...) but can be helpful if in doubt.

The problem is that you have to go there in person as they never ever answer the phone.

Best,

I would expect your travel agent to be able to answer these questions.

Travel agencies

Hello Mr. Woo,

Can you give me the address of your travel agency? I've never found an agent who was able to answer particular immigration questions.

The keyword is 'particular': originating from Lithuania (I could imagine most of the immigration officers do not even know where it is...), staying private with friends and for three months is quite a particular request imho.

Very impressing although in the beginning I thought it was mainly for Americans until I discovered the drop-down menu.

I'll definitely test it at one stage.

We have a visitor who regularly comes to stay for periods of three months. We always send a letter of invitation which he shows to the officers at the airport. He has never once been asked to provide evidence of funds he has available for the duration of his stay.
