Call to Mauritius

Beitragvon reno » Mi Feb 11, 2009 15:26

Hi

Anyone knows the cheapest way to call Mauritius from the UK?

I have no landline so only use my mobile phone for calls. Normally, I would use my Tesco sim card for this, calling an '077' number as access number. I usually had free minutes when I topped up so I was ending up paying around 5 p a minute. I cannot call to that number for cheap anymore due to their new pay-as-you-go tariff plan. So now I am paying 10p a minute, I think.

Ever tried Voipcheap?

Its one of the cheapest way to call to Mauritius. You can even use your cell phone...

I had a look and it cost about 6p excluding VAT. I used to call from my PC before using Verizon which is similar to Voipcheap, but they don't offer this service anymore.

Did anyone try TeleTop? 4.5p a minute plus 5p connection charge. Have just found this.

Hi reno,

My mates and myself here in the UK have been using prepaid phone cards that we get off some international phone shops around.

You defo need a landline although its a toll free number. (you only pay for your card).

We get 15-20mins of talk for a £1 card which is really good in my opinion.

You can't get anything cheaper than 5p unless you go for the more expensive ones...

Cheap calls

Beitragvon BarbaraG » Mo Mär 02, 2009 20:01

Hi Reno,

do you have skype downloaded on yr PC ? Free calls from PC to PC and you also have possibility to call landlines and mobile phone for not too expensive. [ they give you the fares and you can purchse calling time in advance or payas you go] That's the best I could find for my family and the call qualoty is very good.
Hope this will help. Brgds Barbara

Thanks for the suggestion Barbara, I was using something similar before (Verizon for calls from PC to landlines, similar to skype, skype was more expensive at that time) but they don't offer this service anymore. I know PC to PC calls cost nothing but my family in Mauritius doesn't use a PC...
