Best currency to use in MU

Postby ITSME » Tue Dec 12, 2006 2:25

Hi,
We are spending Xmas in MU. Can anyone tell us what is the best currency to use for shopping in the markets, stores, and for eating out.

Many thanks,

Daz

Daz,

Once on the island, change money into local currency. You can do that right away at the airport.
This is always the best deal, especially at markets, etc.

When they give you prices let's say in €, it's always more expensive compared to the rupees.
Also, at grocery stores, small restaurants, buses, etc. you will want rupees anyway.

You can make yourself an exchange cheat sheet with oanda. It's very convenient.

You are most welcome, Daz.

Enjoy your Xmas on the island. :cool:

I'll have to wait somewhat longer, till March 16... But then, it's not that long I'm back. But it's winter here and I'd prefer the Mauritian summer by far...

@ITSME

Please exchange your poundsterling into Mauritian Rupees. Although some shops will definitely accept the pound (because of the highly depreciated MUR) you might get ripped off!!!

@Kathy

U should probably put something like this in your sig

"La vie est dure quand est loin de l'ile Maurice"

J'aimerais bien avoir un morceau de Chocolat Suisse pour Noel

You're ever so right. But, while I can have confiture everyday it's a whole different matter with Mauritius.

And I fully understand you regarding the chocolate. But then, the Belgians are strong as well....
