BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The European Union said Friday it was looking to drop visa requirements for citizens traveling to the bloc from Mauritius, the Seychelles and four Caribbean island countries.
EU Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner Franco Frattini said he «intends to open the negotiations on the visa waiver with the six countries» as soon as the EU's 27 governments give their backing to the proposal, which could happen in the next few months.
The EU said it wanted to reach short-stay visa waiver agreements with Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados and Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean and with the other two islands in the Indian ocean.

A preliminary decision was made in 2006 to drop three-month visit visa requirements for travelers from the six countries.
